Strong
condemnation
of the reported 260103 execution
of Lobsang Dhondup after a trial
that China claims was closed due to unnamed "state secrets."
He was
charged with involvement in an April bomb blast that injured several
people and with "engaging in splittist activities," a blanket
term used by the Chinese government to detain individuals for arbitrary or
political reasons. Reports concerning their
trial and detention indicate that the Tibetans
were not given a fair trial and that the conditions
of their detention violated established international norms
- they
were
tortured.
